As with all things ‘nuclear’, the plans are always ‘unclear,’ illa? I was just telling Pitu Sultan (the karigai-loving kind as opposed to the odalisque-loving) that I’d pretty much had it with this “atom bomb” week. Fascinating, how you sultans somehow seem to have your (psychic) fingers firmly pressed to my (weakly) pulse.

Goings on this week make me recall that Mimi Leder (I love her!) movie “Deep Impact,” which got criminally overshadowed by “Armageddon.” Morgan Freeman plays president Tom Beck who gently cautions a reporter hot on the heels of a ‘National Treasury’-level “affair” of Clintonian proportions… things are really not what they seem and the President wants to keep it “under wraps” for the time being.

The two of them are *literally* talking two different things, it’s a treat to watch how the whole thing transpires, in the kitchen, with pots and pans and butcher knives and secret agents everywhere… a pall of gloom hanging in the air… you-the-viewer are at the edge of your seat… then … phew. That was my favorite scene in the movie! The reporter blowing hot and heavy about The Truth getting swept underneath the carpet… the president deadpanning that back in the day, people knew about the Manhattan Project, yet kept it a secret… (It’ll surprise no one that I also took off on a tangent to that terrace top conversation in Rocket Singh, when the porn-surfing Giri Reddy remarks, “Yeh kaun si secret hai jo poori duniya ko maaloom hai?”)

p.s: And to the video, it’s true; the people are NEVER the politics, merely the pawns. And I say this as a fellow “Pakistani schoolgirl,” if only for the briefest span of time, when a paki paki pardesi taught me that with One Ducati, life can be a simple yet satisfying thrill-ride… An “education” for which I’m eternally grateful.
