Justice Alito needs to be arrested for dissent: A Facebook argument.

This  developed a life of its own, Brian is a good friend and deserves much credit for sticking with my bloviating, but I won the argument, so I guess I’m gonna sound generous, no? 😉

I’d rather see more genuine emotion, not less. I’m not in favor of violence, or outright disruptions of the proceedings, but a “you lie” now and then is better than a bunch of wooden yes-men. I know, either-or

Id rather that the supreme court be filled with ultra leftwingers who legislate to stick it to the man, than is filled with corporate stooges that stick it to the people.

I’d rather have my corruption be visible, than hidden behind populist rhetoric. Did you not see the 20th century? The pols and judges who supposedly are “sticking it to the man”, always turn out to be the most corrupt. It’s like those anti-gay pols who always turn out to be on the down low.

artificial opposites.

it is possible to have someone that is truly populist and a little less than corrupt. just as it is possible that someone is a brazen shill and completely corrupt(psst: dick chaney)…

granted, but my own prejudice is that it’s better to trust a man who owns up to acting in his own self interest, than it is to trust a man who claims to be doing something for me out of the goodness of his heart.

talk about your false choices. We’re talking regular schmucks here dude, not gods. We can’t have a government by gods unless we go for the monarchy or a dictatorship.

Have you seen what people do to other vertebrates and to each other? People are without a doubt the most vile of all God’s creatures. The only way they govern themselves is within a system that rewards them financially for participating. Pretending that people will govern by something other than their own selfish interests results in very, very bad things happening.

the ONLY way? are you saying youre now going to start preaching a capitalist stock market culture to the animals in the jungle and the creatures in the sea?

are you then going to tibet and teach it to dalai lama’s peaceful hoardes who are now being enslaved as factory labor to build you shoes?

the ONLY way he says. That’s rich…. See More

I say lets go to the top 2% of the world’s population, take away all their non productive assets and give it to the bottom 45% of the population. world hunger, thirst, poverty health all problems solved by one single legislative stroke.

I let the love flow in my own life, and it comes back, and swirls and has profound effect. I’m very trusting and generous to strangers. I just make a distinction between what works in my own life, and what will work within government. Government always ends up with the lowest common denominator.

if you look for hope in a cynical argument, sue jean, your bound to be given the runaround. Theyre using the reducio ad absurdum to “prove” there is no alternative.

the only way that people govern is through their own self interests. I didn’t mention the animals or the creatures.

If you don’t think the Dalai Lama is one selfish dude, then you don’t know the Dalai Lama. The guy thinks the whole fucking world revolves around him, and he’s ready to sell out his people as long as American celebrities kiss his ass. He’s Jesus in a hand cart.

they said that about gandhi when he was alive to. the politics of vilification is its own logic. people should learn to develop a backbome and see things at their own merits instead of doing the logical equivalent of staring at (say) gandhi’s asshole and claiming that they can only see shit coming out of the man.

its taking that argument to excess that fails you.

To use economics, your argument does not take into account the law of diminishing marginal utility. so when people fail to be equally satisfied by that additional bit of wealth, they go back to their “faith” (capitalism) and try to acquire much MORE wealth to satisfy the same amount of utility. … See Morethis , carried to rideculous lengths , makes for one person having 50 billion (quite idle) dollars when about three billion others have to make do with about 25 billion dollars among them.(and little food water or medicine).

@Susan: how you live your personal life has nothing to do with how you can expect government to operate. Individual lives are filled with miracles and events that are entirely impossible to predict. When you start dealing with lots of people and lots of events, then statistics start to apply and there’s no escaping the dreaded mean.

more rhetoric. you were on planet “lets reduce marxism to an absurdity”. and when you temporarily let go of the basic facts on the ground (such as diminishing marginal utility) , the trip …sort of …ends….

happily for you…or sadly…

I’m totally on planet “marxism is an absurdity”. Not only does it ignore human nature in theory, in practice it’s caused more pain and suffering than Christianity, and that’s really saying something.
