Tech: Gadget Essentials for the 2010’s. The next list.

Hello all,

This is part II of geeking with ramesh.

I was wondering whether it was worth showing up for the CES show (Jan 8-11 ) in Las Vegas, (I may still go, recession and all)  so I decided to set up my own exhibitor booth for products I may buy/ already have. This is a list of ten.

1. A portable 500 GB/ 1 TB hard drive(update: Have it)

Remember the dot com era  holy grail of a paperless world? This calculator sized gizmo  takes us that much closer. it also takes us to a Laptop less world and is an Ideal mate to the mini laptop (featured subsequently). It does not need a power source and carries my life history in scanned documents, emails and ebooks. I also have converted my 2500 strong dvd collection into mpeg 4 files (one per film ) and about a fourth of them sits in memory. My music is there too.

2. Mini laptop:(update:have it)

Moore’s law predicts tht this gadget will be out of style within  two years. I would still buy a good one if I can find it for less than a hundered bucks because it would replace a bulky laptop /power bar in my back pack.

3. All in one phone : (update: have it)

It is impossible to settle on a configuration you like in cell phones, but the following features are essential if you want to out Iphone your girlfriend : A world phone (with 2 sim card slots) , PDA, unlocked, Many SD card slots, at least 3 inch viewer, FM radio, TV(preferably digital), Still and movie camera ,Slim, touchscreen and light.

It can optionally also have a projector a GPS, TIVO or a telephoto zoom lens attachment.

Solar power:

Solar power attachments, as the technology currently stands, need to have the following to be viable: 1. a storage battery which will charge downstream devices 2. a poweroutlet  plug in that will charge the battery in case you don’t have the time and patience to charge the batteries.

Products on the wish list( I own a photo backpack that recharges my phone/ camera batteries but I m looking to pick up at least one of the  included) :

4. Solar Battery pack (update: have it)

this calculator sized solar battery with a storage battery

5. solar power  backpack (update: Have it)

Bluetooth Stuff:

6. Car FM adapter: picks my phone’s signal and puts it on my car’s FM radio

7. Bluetooth stereo speakers/speakerphone:

Which is lightweight enough to carry and powerful/sensitive enough to play your media.

8. The Flexible Keyboard : (update : have it)

The Wireless keyboard can be rolled up and stored in a tiny corner of a messengerbag.

Looking to a future gadget, which can go many very useful ways

9.The OLO

Which has a dock, which will convert your cell phone microprocessor for use as a laptop.( this is not in a commercially viable form yet.

10. The firebox pocket projector: Projects a 50 inch image in hd.(youre next baby)

And last but not the least,

11. Flying wifi : is over twenty years overdue. FREE flying wifi is going to be the rule in the next decade, when the next airline seat competition heats up.

the GPRS modem dongle (update: have it)

insert your cell phone sim card and it converts to a internet card for your laptop.
